Canada is home to some of the world’s best comedians and on Sunday, October 2, Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival welcomes Mike MacDonald, Jessica Holmes, Carla Collins, The Doo Wops and Mark DeBonis to the Massey Hall stage for Comedy Night in Canada, hosted by Jon Dore.
An incredibly talented actor and comedian, Ottawa-born Jon Dore has been hailed by TV Guide as one of Canada's top "rising stars of the future”, and has recently been named on Variety’s Top Ten Comic’s To Watch list. In 2003 Jon took part in the Homegrown Comedy Competition at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, and has since returned to the festival to host the competition the past few years. Jon has appeared on his own Comedy Now! special for CTV and The Comedy Network, on Comedy Central's “Live At Gotham”, and his “Comedy Central Presents…Jon Dore” premiered this past spring.
Mike MacDonald is fast, funny and considered by many to be one of the best veterans of the North American comedy circuit. In addition to his successful live performances all over North America, Mike MacDonald has appeared on virtually every television show that showcases stand-up comedy. He has performed at Montreal’s prestigious Just for Laughs comedy festival a record 24 years in a row earning him the title, “The Iron Man of Comedy”. Mike has starred in three critically acclaimed specials for the CBC which were co-produced and shown on the Showtime cable network in the U.S. Mike is also the first recipient of the “Dave Broadfoot Comic Genius Award” and received a life time achievement award from Just For Laughs.
Jessica Holmes is a member of Royal Canadian Air Farce, now known as “Air Farce Live”. She's a successful comedian, actress, screenwriter and speaker who has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Leslie Nielsen and even Dr. Phil. Holmes co-wrote and starred in the Comedy Network series “The Itch”, and the CTV comedy/music series “Sonic Temple”. She went on to write and star in her own one-hour comedy special for CTV titled “Holmes Alone”. For the special, Holmes received a Gemini nomination as well as the Platinum Award at the Houston International Comedy Festival.
Carla Collins is an award-winning comedian, actress, television host and writer. A gifted stand-up, she has been hailed by the Canadian press as “Canada’s Tina Fey” and the “Queen of Comedy” and performs all over the United States and Canada. Collins’ hysterical television series “Carlawood” is a hit with viewers and critics alike. Season two of the highly acclaimed docu-soap/comedy currently airs on TV Tropolis in Canada.
The Doo Wops, John Catucci and David Mesiano, blend song and satire while maintaining a uniquely Italian-Canadian flavour. Over the last couple years they have taken the Canadian comedy scene by storm, and have performed all over the world including The Melbourne Comedy Festival in Australia, The World Stands Up Show in the U.K., which aired on the BBC and BBC America, and have toured across North America with the Just For Laughs Comedy Tour, Wiseguys Tour, and Monsters of Comedy Tour.
Mark DeBonis is a 24-year-old stand-up comedian from Scarborough, Ontario. Mark has hosted and produced multiple, successful comedy shows in and around Toronto and has traveled around North America performing stand-up comedy. He has participated in the Waterloo Comedy Festival and opened for Shawn Majumder in the Raising the Roof charity show. Mark can be heard on XM Radio as part of “Canada’s Next Top Comic” where he was a finalist. He was also featured on CBC radio’s “Cream of Comedy” showcase for best up-and-comer stand-up comedian in Canada. Mark has appeared on Much Music’s “Much On Demand”, Bite TV, Comedy Network, and Sun TV. In 2010, Mark took home his first Canadian Comedy Award for Best New Comer in Canada and in 2011 he won the Yuk Yuks $25,000 Great Canadian Laugh Off.
